DC Libertines Burlesque and Sideshow Is Morally Unrestrained in Asbury Park NJ debut performance includes classic and neo burlesque, hooping and fire work, and traditional sideshow acts Asbury Park, New Jersey, May 28, 2009 – For the first time ever, the popular DC-based “DC Libertines” brings its unique mix of burlesque and sideshow to New Jersey. The troupe will perform on June 27 at renowned bowling alley and rock ‘n’ roll and burlesque venue, Asbury Lanes. Performers include Bambi Galore, CoCo Monroe, Mab Just Mab, Miss Joule and ShortStaxx. Individually, these women regularly bring their unusual talents to venues on the East Coast and across the country, including New York City, Baltimore and DC. Collectively, as DC Libertines, they challenge the boundaries of conventional morality and of the burlesque and sideshow genres to present a show that is theatrical, thought-provoking, twisted and--of course--sexy. “We’re excited to be bringing the best of Baltimore and DC burlesque and sideshow to New Jersey,” said producer Marie Hamby (aka Bambi Galore). “DC Libertines embodies its name--freethinkers, acting without moral restraint. It’s a great opportunity for folks to see a collection of performers who each bring a unique act to the stage.” About the performers: Bambi Galore (Marie Hamby) produces and performs the monthly “Bambi’s Burlezk Experience” at the Palace of Wonders, DC’s premiere burlesque and sideshow hotspot. She has been featured in the Washington City Paper and in the burlesque blog, “Candy Pitch.” Coco Monroe co-founded DC’s first neo-burlesque troupe and now produces The DC Gurly Show, a regular show at EFN Lounge and the Palace of Wonders. She has been featured in the Washington Post and the Washington Blade. Mab Just Mab “DC’s Own Sideshow Girl” is a master of traditional sideshow acts, including hammering nails into her head and escaping from straitjackets. She is part of DC’s longest-running theatrical sideshow (Cheeky Monkey Sideshow) and is known for bringing more than a touch of humor into her acts. She performs at venues across the nation. Miss Joule brings her burlesque, circus, sideshow, hoop and fire skills to the Tilted Torch variety show at the Palace of Wonders regularly. She has performed at the Virgin Festival, Lollapalooza and Burning Man. ShortStaxx is a mainstay of DC and Baltimore burlesque and performs regularly with Bambi’s Burlezk Experience, the Dutch Oven Burlesque and the Glitterama Variety Show. She has produced DC Libertines performances at local festivals and has been featured in the Washington Post. _____________________________________ DC Libertines Burlesque and Sideshow comprises unique artists who are fiercely dedicated to the preservation and evolution of burlesque and sideshow and to expressing their singular creative visions within these distinctly American performance art forms. |
