A recent article in Reuters discussed the burlesque revival and its focus on topics such as political satire and femininity. It's a good read with interviews from New York's top burlesque stars: Burlesque revival: more nerdy than sexy? Wed Sep 26, 2007 2:13pm EDT By Helen Chernikoff

The revival has even entered the mainstream on the stiletto heels of dancer Dita Von Teese, who hawks upscale lipstick, drapes herself on the covers of women's magazines and was in a rocky marriage with rock star Marilyn Manson.
But in the clubs that nourished burlesque's rebirth a decade ago, dancers and fans are noticing something new -- it's not just about women baring their breasts anymore. Burlesque has become intellectual. |

Capital City Carnival was one fabulous time! With the gathering of such great acts, beautiful September weather, and fine microbrew, what more can you ask for? I stilted the afternoon away and shared FREE mardi gras beads with the carnival goers. Evening then fell, out came the hoop, and a night ride on the ferris wheel topped off the day. Kudos to the carnival organizers for such a great event. The venue was perfect for the mingling of music lovers, sideshow freaks, and beer connoiseurs. I look forward to next year already! |
