We certainly CAN do it! PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 17 January 2011
We can raise awareness. We can help our neighbors. We can overcome obstacles. We can share our talents to help others. Join us on Friday, January 21st, at Phase 1 as talented women from DC and beyond take the stage for a common cause.  This show features a variety of vixens on a mission. Their goal is to raise money to help support the Emergence Community Arts Collective in DC.

ECACollective not only offers a plethora of weekly classes, monthly seminars, various support groups and counseling service, but they have also played host to a variety of belly dance and drag kings events hosted by Belladonna, Ken Vegas, and more. In an attempt to say "thank you" for believing in us and creating space for us, we would like to bring everyone together to give something back and help out a wonderful organization.

The Emergence Community Arts Collective is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster a spirit of community in the Pleasant Plains neighborhood of Washington, DC, through social activities, traditional arts classes, support groups, and educational seminars

There was a time when neighbors knew each other and supported those in need. There was a time when neighborhoods spoke out against negative things happening around them. There was a time when we could talk, play games that weren't plugged in, learn from each other, or just sit and enjoy a cup of coffee on the front porch. There was a time when the elders watched the young ones grow up and guided them to the right path, when stories of families and events and history were told over and over until they just became a part of you. There was a time that we danced and sang and enjoyed life.

Rather than reminisce on the old days, the ECACollective believes we can revive them. Deep down people's hearts have not changed; its just that fear and stress have overshadowed our potential. With conscious focus we can restore the basic human elements that have been lost along the way.

It is not intended that we deal with life alone. It is through community that we will find a new strength and peace.
